"Whilst I was at the archery, I had the fortunate opportunity to engage and interview the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in America, General Martin Dempsey.
The general declared he is the head of the US Paralympic delegation and that tells me that at least 20 of the 280-strong US team are wounded veteran of the Iraq and Afghan wars.
When I told him that Channel 4 is transmitting 400 hours of the Games and that there was almost no live coverage in the US on television, he said he would ask questions when he gets home. I pressed him on the current crisis in Afghanistan in which increasing number of Nato personnel are being killed by the Afghan military personnel, who are supposed to be working alongside them in combating the Taliban. The general said the Taliban are using social networks to turn members of the Afghan armed forces and much more besides."
