Around 10am tomorrow I go under Doctor Utku Kandemir’s knife at the UCSF campus, 505 Parnassus. Visiting hours are from 11am to 8pm, and please do visit, though Wednesday evening I may be a bit of a zombie. I’ll be getting a plate screwed in to my left scapula and a pin or two in my left clavicle. There will be two incisions, front and back. I don’t have a good sense of how long the surgery will last, but I imagine a while — that seems like a lot of cutting and hardware installation.
I know the UCSF orthopedics team is top notch, but still, wish me luck. Everyone’s gotta go through this stuff, I know, but it doesn’t make it much less frightening in the moment.

Sending good vibes to my friend, Jackson. The about to become bionic Jackson. The same Jackson whose cat took a leave of absence to track down and fuck up those responsible for his accident. The same Jackson who is about to find out that chicks love a scar or two. That Jackson dude who will put this shit behind him and climb the next hill a little fucking harder because we do not let this stuff get in our way.
